How is JCATD different from other high school theatre programs?
What will my child learn?
The Jefferson County Academy of Theatre and Dance is the only Jefferson County school that allows students to transfer in from other districts. This means your student is in classes with other students who are as passionate and committed as your child. While a regular theatre class is fun, an Academy class is something special.
JCATD is for students who want to study theatre at a high level with other committed, focused young artists while still having a traditional high school experience. Friday night football, Homecoming week festivities, cheerleaders, and marching bands are all a part of being a JCATD student. Our students typically love participating in other clubs or sports, and enjoy the experience of being a part of a 6A school.
Our dance department is closely integrated with the theatre department. We train dancers who act and actors who dance! At least one main stage production each year is a large musical that allows our dancers and actors to work together on a show.
JCATD offers three tracks: Acting, Dance and Technical Theatre.
